Before I talk about my vision for Real Food School, can I share some very exciting news?
My second cookbook EAT LOCAL — Food, Farming and Conversation is being officially launched at GOMA in Brisbane next Tuesday, the 10th of May. EAT LOCAL celebrates the stories of 26 farmers, growers and makers from the Scenic Rim region. Christine Sharp and I co-authored EAT LOCAL, and Chris captured the recipes and region in gorgeous full-colour photographs. She also edited and designed the book. EAT LOCAL includes 60 real-food recipes inspired by our candid conversations with the farmers and producers. If I do say so myself, EAT LOCAL is a warm and approachable book, and it looks as much at home on the coffee table as on the kitchen bench.
If you’d like more info or if you’re keen to purchase a book, visit the Eat Local Week website. There are also some tempting launch events, such as fabulous lunches at Hotel QT on the Gold Coast and at Wild Canary in Brisbane, library visits and more. Download the printable program on the Eat Local Week website to find out more.
REAL FOOD SCHOOL
So, what can you expect from our Real Food School blog? I say ‘our’ because my partner, Christine Sharp, will play a big part in the food photography and editing. To begin, we will be working together to make this space come alive.
Real Food School has been a dream of mine for some time. (I’ve actually had the business name and web address on hold for over a year.) Since selling Mondo Organics in Brisbane last year, I have realised how much I miss teaching food. I thought starting here would be a good way to connect with like-minded real foodies and start talking all things food. Real food.
Home for us is Tamborine Mountain in the Gold Coast hinterland. So, I’ll be sharing seasonal recipes that feature the produce from local growers on the mountain and from our kitchen garden. We also shop on the Gold Coast (mostly seafood) and in the Northern Rivers (mostly markets), so I’ll feature produce from these regions too.
I’ll include gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan recipes and options. Whole, organic and real foods are my passion, so my recipes will be based on local, sustainable, seasonal ingredients.
Welcome to Real Food School. I am looking forward to getting to know you and sharing my recipes, food knowledge and ideas on eating real.
